2010 Field trips

Fieldtrips are an important and fun part of Coldwater School’s curriculum. We satisfy many learning outcomes in all subjects with travel trips, both short and long. Our school year is planned around Culture fieldtrips like gathering Indian Tea and harvesting wild potatoes. The students and staff also enjoy visiting other communities’ special sites like the Kamloops Game Farm or the confluence of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers at Lytton.

At times, with support from our community, we accomplish a fieldtrip like the 5 day Victoria-Vancouver bus trip that the High School students just experienced in June 2010. That was a lot of fun and very educational, too!

Look for a post soon telling about the Victoria fieldtrip from the viewpoint of the students themselves!

September is here soon…

We are excited about our learning with so many events and fieldtrips to experience this year. Our school is located in the beautiful Coldwater Valley, so all we have to do is walk outside to the meadows, hillsides and river, to enhance our learning.

We are getting ready for more outings to learn about the valley with our elders and community members.

Our 27th year is rapidly drawing to close since we first opened ….its been an awesome year and we are happy to share some of the school’s highlights. We will select photos and some stories and upload them to share with you.

Moqwix – storytelling and writers group

Mohqwix is a story telling and writers group hosted by the coldwater school. The group meets every wednesday afternoon from 3:30-5:00 in the Coldwaterschool culture room. Come listen to the elders share their stories. And be sure to bring your own story to work on.

We are ready for our 26th year of learning! Our students are registering in classes from Nursery (4 year olds) to Grade 12. The staff is planning ahead so we know some of our field trips and cultural events. We are looking forward to working with the families and community to accomplish a great year of learning with our students.

Our 25th Anniversary Celebration

On Thursday, June 25, Coldwater School celebrated its 25 year in operation. Former students, community members and supporters of the school came to enjoy a delicious dinner and take in the cultural displays and photo boards prepared by our staff and students. A plaque honoring Grand Chief Gordon Antoine was unveiled and there was even an impromptu kite flying session. Thank you for all your support and we hope the next 25 years will be as wonderful as the first.

We hope you all have a happy safe summer and we look forward to seeing you again in September!
